Elsie the Tuxedo

Elsie

If you have followed along with us, you'll know we have two, four-footed crew members onboard. However, it is with saddened hearts to tell you that our beautiful tuxedo, Elsie, has crossed her rainbow bridge.

She showed up at our previous, (land), home's doorstep one late October morning, it was still dark, snowing, and she was standing at the door, ready to be let in. I had just gotten out of bed, and was on my way to get my morning coffee, when I saw her there. In my morning stupor, I asked Bill, "there's a cat at the door, what should I do?" He replied, "let it in!"

She walked in, sat by the warm wood stove, and declared she was home. We named her L.C, because when I picked her up to cuddle, she became like liquid, as she draped herself around my neck. L-liquid, C- cat. This eventually morphed into Elsie, as she took over the household.

Hmmmm, warm.

She won our hearts, and love, and we never did figure out where she came from, or why anyone would give up such a sweet cat.

She learned to walk with a harness, and leash, she didn't mind it.

"Is it safe to come out now?"
Elsie didn't let much faze her, she didn't like the airline cargo hold, but she endured it, to reach her new home, Denali Rose. She became a wonderful boat cat. Wind, waves, or the roar of the engine didn't bother her at all.

We kept her on a leash, or in her PFD for a brief time, she adapted well, and soon neither were necessary. (We always restricted the cats to the cockpit, or down below while underway.)

We, and Gus, could always count on Elsie to find the best napping spots.

"Gus, this bed is mine!"

The boat became hers, and later when she became almost blind, you would never have known it by how she made her way around.

"It's time to feed me!"

    1. Thanks Ellen, she was special, though we're probably slightly biased. Gus is a bit bewildered, he doesn't have anyone to pester now, (except us).

    1. Thanks, we enjoyed being her servants. ;-). I still expect to see her underfoot, asking to be fed, when I enter the galley, it will take some time to heal.
