Big Bang Theory
Sheldon is from one of my favorite shows, Big Bang Theory, I recommend watching it if you need a goofy laugh. I sometime say to Bill, "speak english Sheldon", if you've seen it, you can relate.

Here's a partial list of good things you can do while you are in the "social distancing", "shelter in place", or in "self quarantine" mode.

NPR has a recent article about shows, music, and sports you can now watch for free.

Our local museum, The Nolan Center Museum and Civic Center, s quite good, click here to see a virtual tour of the Tlingit Culture section.
They also have a Facebook page that has shared the latest exhibit, locally made quilts that are AMAZING, and the "Birds of Southeast" set up. Search Facebook, or click here.

One of my favorite Alaska artists has free coloring pages ready for download here.

University of Alaska Cooperative Extension Service has all kinds of webinars about gardening, check out the listings here.

National Gallery of Art is showcasing a different gallery each day, at the time of this writing they were showing Dutch painting of the seventeenth century, see it here.

Audible is streaming stories for free, check it out here.

Libraries, churches, and work-out facilities are doing live or canned streams, facebook live, or other platform delivery methods, check some of them out. Our library will be Facebook Live reading, Thursdays at 10:00am ADT. Here

This is an interesting offering, Yale is offering their most popular course for free, read about it here.

Many online retailers are offering free shipping for the time being, check out your favorites to see what kind of bargains exist. Remember to support small business in this time of uncertainty.

AND, of course, there's always the option of getting your eyes off of the screen, and go out for a walk, a hike, a bike ride, a scenic drive, call a friend, do some artwork, and for us the never-ending boat projects.

Stay safe, and healthy out there, as in everyday, these are the best of times, these are the worst of times.

Elsie the Tuxedo

Elsie

If you have followed along with us, you'll know we have two, four-footed crew members onboard. However, it is with saddened hearts to tell you that our beautiful tuxedo, Elsie, has crossed her rainbow bridge.

She showed up at our previous, (land), home's doorstep one late October morning, it was still dark, snowing, and she was standing at the door, ready to be let in. I had just gotten out of bed, and was on my way to get my morning coffee, when I saw her there. In my morning stupor, I asked Bill, "there's a cat at the door, what should I do?" He replied, "let it in!"

She walked in, sat by the warm wood stove, and declared she was home. We named her L.C, because when I picked her up to cuddle, she became like liquid, as she draped herself around my neck. L-liquid, C- cat. This eventually morphed into Elsie, as she took over the household.

Hmmmm, warm.

She won our hearts, and love, and we never did figure out where she came from, or why anyone would give up such a sweet cat.

She learned to walk with a harness, and leash, she didn't mind it.

"Is it safe to come out now?"
Elsie didn't let much faze her, she didn't like the airline cargo hold, but she endured it, to reach her new home, Denali Rose. She became a wonderful boat cat. Wind, waves, or the roar of the engine didn't bother her at all.

We kept her on a leash, or in her PFD for a brief time, she adapted well, and soon neither were necessary. (We always restricted the cats to the cockpit, or down below while underway.)

We, and Gus, could always count on Elsie to find the best napping spots.

"Gus, this bed is mine!"

Taco Cat
The boat became hers, and later when she became almost blind, you would never have known it by how she made her way around.

"It's time to feed me!"

Elsie, we love you, and you loved us well. RIP. 😍😻

Friday Funny 02-28/2020 (Dodger/Bimini, Order in Chaos)

Nice title.

That must be me.

Sailrite shipped all of my supplies for the new dodger and bimini ultra fast. I'm not complaining, but I'm not quite ready to start, so in the meantime, we move around the supplies.  One of the boxes had split the end in transit, it contained three rolls of expensive Strataglass window vinyl, so a big "whew" when it was found undamaged.

There are over 40 zippers in the existing enclosure, and I ordered that many, and a few more. As it turns out, I got a couple wrong, they need double sliders, instead of singles, back to Sailrite for another order.

Zippers aren't made in every length, so I had to buy the closest size, and I will cut them to fit. I've sorted out the packages, and labeled them, that way I don't inadvertently use a length that was intended for another area.

Sorting zippers.

Bill put up brighter light over the sewing table, and I'll be able to see much better! Now I need to clear the table, and bench of non-essential items.

My sewing "room".

I also bought these clamps to make it easier to hold things together while I run it through the sewing machine.

We're storing the rolls of Seamark, Sunbrella, Strataglass, Shelter-Rite, and soft window liner in the forward head, it's convenient that we can use the aft head instead.

A few on the bookshelf in the forward V-Berth also.

The cockpit is also piled with stuff, and I'll need to clean that out too. The bimini keeps the rain out, but I need to take it down to create my pattern for the new one.

Important stuff.

We'll probably rig up some kind of blue tarp over the cockpit until I get the new one ready. We're scheduling for a haul-out this spring to do some maintenance, and we haven't decided yet whether we want to put up new canvas while we're in the yard. Last time we were there, the boat got pretty dirty. My guess is that we'll need the bimini top, and won't put on the new sides.

It's pouring rain today, so inside organization will be better than outside.
