Friday Funny [27-Jul-2018; Late, but still in the sun…]

While we've been out cruising, I've been bad at preparing the Friday Funny in advance. What you need to understand, is that we've had a great run of hot, sunny days, and everyone feels the need to take advantage of it while it lasts! We didn't even put all of the items back onboard that we took off when we had company, Bill just up and said, "why don't we put some essentials back on, and then get out of here!"

So we did.

We traveled the back side of Wrangell Island, and stopped in our usual place in Madan Bay. Some friends from B dock, onboard Waypoint were already anchored there, and Craig made us fresh crab quiche for breakfast the next morning, oh so yummy.

We departed for a new adventure, a place we hadn't been before, exploring Bradfield Canal. We anchored next to Duck Point, and the next day, Waypoint came and joined us. The weather, scenery, and wildlife were abundant, and we stayed for days, even after Waypoint moved on. Bill got our two new solar panels running, and the new electric winch to lift the dinghy into the davits. Woot woot for the now, three solar panels recharging the batteries, and more projects completed.

I washed hatches, you know, the never ending battle with the green stuff.

Gus, and Elsie enjoyed their lazy days in the sun, but more often they were found in the shade napping and cooling off. It must be hard to wear a fur coat when it's 75-85 degrees in the sun.

Yes, I know, you're laughing at us, but we broke some heat records in Southeast Alaska this past week. It's been glorious, with enough breeze to keep most of the biting insects at bay. I did receive one nasty bite that I had an allergic reaction from, I think it was a horsefly. I had a huge swollen, itchy, angry red mark, and I had to take an antihistamine, which helped to reduce the negative effects.

We ran the water maker, did laundry, and kept the batteries happy with the solar panels, wind generator and diesel generator, but we're down to powdered eggs, and no creamer for our coffee. Is it time to head into the marina, and reload?

PS. I still have wine, and Bill has beer, so maybe not.

Friday Funny 7-20/18 (Prime Day)

I confess, I fell for it, Prime Day. Amazon put on this sale with all kinds of weird, and unusable items, and that's what my friends, and family will be getting for birthdays and Christmas presents this year. I apologize, but I spent hours clicking through pages of stuff, trying to find the perfect gift, and they are probably going to end up with the next best thing. Who knows, they might get just what they've always wanted.

I was enamored with the idea that I could get all of my Christmas shopping done now, and I went ahead and ordered stuff that will probably go on sale again in November/December. I'll be storing it, (somewhere?), and paying postage to get it to it's destinations later. I'll also want to stay in Wrangell till it arrives, and Bill will be pushing to get "outta here". "Update", we are getting off the dock, the weather is just to good to hang around, we'll be back before the post office wants to send everything back.

This is a joke to Alaskans, not happening.

Oh yeah, about that storing part? This year, I'll be keeping everything on the boat, I put everything in storage last year, and we all know how that turned out!

Friday Funny 7-13/18 (It's Friday, and the 13th)

If I see something like this on the dock, I'm locking the hatch.

I've never seen this series of movies, because I don't do horror shows. The last one I saw, I was in high school, and I had a friend over for the night. She decided we should see "Psycho", and it was many years before I could get in the shower without visions of Janet Leigh, and the sound of the knife. EEEE  eee EEEEE, you can hear it too, I bet.

I've written about maritime superstitions before. The one that says you shouldn't start your cruise on a Friday, and the one about not having any bananas onboard. After my brother left Denali Rose, I suddenly realized that he had brought bananas into the galley. It's a good thing I'm not superstitious. (Knock on wood.)

I just found a new superstition. you should always wear the same hat onboard. That's kind of impossible to do here. We have a warm weather ball cap, a wet weather rain hat, and a fuzzy, warm, cold weather hat. Bill forgot to attach his cap-tainer one day, and his hat blew off. I had to buy him a new extra long bill, ball cap for Christmas.

One thing I definitely wouldn't do, is to name my boat "The Minnow". I think that would be tempting fate, I might name a kitten Gilligan though, that would be cute.

I don't have any plans for the day, other than pool walking. Since the doctors in Anchorage told me to exercise in the pool, I have done it everyday we've been at the dock. Mon/Wed/Fri is the arthritis class, where we walk, and move all of our joints, and Tues/Thurs/Sat, I go to lap swim and walk back and forth in the slow lap lane. I can say that lap days are the most mind-numbing, boring exercising that you can do, however, I'm off of the crutches, (again, finally), and back to my cane. This time I definitely won't push it, slow, and steady, to get back to walking without aids.

Friday Funny on Monday 7-9/18 (No Wifi)

No wifi all week, and my family ARE nice people.

There wasn't a Friday Funny last week, maybe you noticed.... maybe you didn't.

We hosted my brother, and his wife onboard with us for a week, while Southeast Alaska was experiencing exceptional weather. Everyone discussed the itinerary, and made the command decision to skip the 4th of July festivities in town, and get off of the dock to enjoy days at sea, and nights in scenic bays. That meant no wifi, and I wasn't organized enough to have pre-written a blog post set to automatic upload. You might have been disappointed, (or not), but we had a great cruise.

We did a mini tour of the north end of Prince of Wales Island, and poked into some bays that we had never been in before. We spent one night in Red Bay, (where a local commercial crabber gave us SIX fresh caught dungeness crabs), and one night in Labouchere Bay. We also toured inside of Point Baker, and Port Protection, just to see the scenery. On the way back to Wrangell, we set anchor in St John Harbor, one of the best places we've found for beautiful sunsets.

All too soon we had to take them back to town to catch their flight for the next part of their vacation. Thanks for joining us, and sharing our experiences.
